POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (100 mm wide x 125 mm tall). A Gnathian olpe with a squat round foot that supports a tear shaped body with a flared lip and single handle. The body is decorated with several fields of polychromatic designs. From top under the lip, to lowest: Concentric circles in white, maroon and white, a yellow double lined design with vertical lines closely slanted slightly to the left, another ring of concentric circles in white maroon and white again, and finally several shapes loosely placed in equidistant spacing around the midsection of the body. Minor losses of glaze. Chip at foot but otherwise intact and attractive. |
