CYPRUS, Paphus. Roman Rule. Mid 1st century BC. Æ (17mm, 3.77 g, 12h). Diademed head of Zeus-Ammon right / Zeus Salaminios(?) standing left, holding scepter and grain ears. Zapiti & Michaelidou 69 (Cleopatra VII?); Nicolaou Paphos II 469-509; Cox Curium 128; BMC Pl. LXXXI, 2. Dark brown patina, slight roughness, off center obverse. VF.

According to Cathy Lorber: “This variety seems more likely to belong to the interlude of Roman rule of Cyprus after the suicide of Ptolemy of Cyprus. That would explain the lack of a legend naming a Ptolemaic king.”

Closing Date and Time: 14 August 2024 at 11:55:20 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
