CILICIA, Tarsus. Gallienus. AD 253-268. Æ (39mm, 17.73 g, 8h). AVT KAI Π H Γ ΓAΛΛIHNOC CЄB, Π Π, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from the front / Zeus Nicephorus seated left, holding Nike and long scepter. RPC X –; SNG BN –; SNG Levante –. Seemingly unpublished. Dark green patina, light porosity, small metal flaw on obverse, slight die shift on reverse. VF. Extremely rare and unpublished, struck on an oversized flan.

In addition to being an unrecorded type for Gallienus, the dies are of differing sizes. The obverse die measures 32mm while the reverse die is only 28. There appears to have been only one denomination issued for Gallienus at Tarsus, averaging over 31mm and often larger, this reverse would have been quite a bit smaller than the average circulating coin at the time.

Closing Date and Time: 14 August 2024 at 11:51:40 ET.
