DECAPOLIS, Antiochia ad Hippum. Elagabalus. AD 218-222. Æ (28mm, 15.80 g, 6h). Radiate and cuirassed bust right, seen from the front / Tetrastyle temple; within, Zeus Arothesios standing left, holding thunderbolt, small Pegasus at feet left, surrounded by stars and crescents; ZЄY in pediment. Cf. Spijkerman 29-30; cf. RPC VI Online 9228; Rosenberger –; cf. Sofaer 30-1 (all with draped bust). Green patina with red earthen highlights, edge flaw. VF. A unique and unpublished variety of an already rare type. |
