M. Caecilius Q.f. Q.n. Metellus. 127 BC. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.94 g, 12h). Rome mint. Helmeted head of Roma right, no star on flap; mark of value below chin; ROMA upward to left / Macedonian shield with head of elephant right in central boss, surrounded by laurel wreath. Crawford 263/1a var. (star on flap); Sydenham 480b; Caecilia 28; RBW 1065. Light cabinet toning with vibrant iridescence, some find patina, test cut. Good VF. Rare variety.
