From the Dr. Thomas E. Beniak Collection, purchased from Nilus Coins, 2 September 2020. Ex Empire Coins, 1985.

The Legio II Traiana was the principal military force in Egypt, from its inception under Trajan to the early fifth century. It is interesting to note that this coin type, honoring Legion II Traiana, was only issued by Carus’ sons: Numerian and Carinus. The reason for their issue is uncertain, the legion had been stationed in Egypt for over a century and a half before being recognized on a coin.
