Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. Æ As (28.5mm, 11.72 g, 6h). Rome mint (or mint in Britain?). Struck AD 154-155. Laureate head right / Britannia seated left on rock, propping head on hand and resting hand on rock, in attitude of mourning; to left, large round shield with central spike and transverse vexillum projecting upward to left. RIC III 934; SCBC 646. Dark green and brown patina, areas of roughness, earthen deposits. VF.

According to the Standard Catalogue of British Coins, this issue was struck to commemorate “the quelling of a serious uprising in the north, ca. 154/5, necessitating the evacuation of the recently constructed Antonine Wall in Scotland.”
