STATUARY. CHINA. In the style of the Tang Dynasty. (235 mm tall x 60 mm wide). A terracotta figure of a Tang Dynasty civil official. The figure is depicted standing with a broad face and prominent, rounded cheeks, characteristic of the period's depictions of officials. He is dressed in a formal robe, cinched at the waist, which drapes in stately folds down to his feet. The official's hands are held in front of his chest, as if in the act of presenting or holding an object, a common gesture among statues representing figures of importance in the Tang court. Overall good antique condition. Signs of wear and age. A chip on the top of Futou -the traditional headwear for civil officials. Sold as is. |
