Allectus. Romano-British Emperor, AD 293-296. Quinarius (18.5mm, 2.86 g, 12h). Uncertain mint. Radiate and cuirassed bust right / Galley left, with cabin, mast, five crew, and doubled oars; no waves; QV (?). RIC V –; Rogiet –; Burnett, Coinage –. Dark green-brown patina, roughness. VF. Unusual with these letters in the mint mark. The iconography of this coin tracks more closely with the quinarii of the ‘C’ mint, however, the mint mark appears to be an intentionally cut QV without signs of alteration.

From the Dr. Malcolm Lyne Collection, purchased from Spink, 21 October 2003.

Closing Date and Time: 6 November 2024 at 13:17:20 ET.
