Carausius. Romano-British Emperor, AD 286-293. Antoninianus (23.5mm, 4.75 g, 7h). ‘C’ mint. VIRTVS CAR AVSI, radiate, helmeted, and cuirassed bust left, holding spear over shoulder and shield / VICTO R I A AVG, Victory walking left, holding wreath and palm frond, at feet to left, captive seated left with hands bound behind his back; C. RIC V – but cf. 429-30 (for reverse). Toned partial silvering and dark brown patina, reverse die wear, light roughness, cleaning scratches. VF. Extremely rare.
