CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 280-272 BC. AR Nomos (21mm, 7.04 g, 4h). Reduced standard. Nude youth on horseback left; to left, attendant standing right, crowning horse; |- to left, A to right, unclear legend below horse / Phalanthos, nude, holding bow and arrow, riding dolphin right. Cf. Vlasto 736–8 (for similar, but different legends and elephant under dolphin); cf. HN Italy 1000 (same). Toned, traces of find patina, horn silver, light roughness, a little off center, minor delaminations on reverse. Near VF. Unpublished with these legends and no elephant. |
