LIBERIA, Republic. 1847-pres. Proof Patern CU Cent (25mm, 6.54 g, 6h). Dated 1868 E. REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA, head of Liberty left, wearing cap decorated with incuse star; small E below / ONE CENT, palm treen on shore; at sea to right, ship under steam left; 1868 in exergue. Kraus 16; KM Pn15. Brown surfaces with iridescent toning, a few scratches. Proof.

While ample contemporary documentation of the 1866 patterns by Taylor survives, nothing can be found referencing the 1868 patterns. They are most likely related to the large group of fantasy patterns produced in 1889 and 1890, likely by Lauer of Nürnberg.
