Carausius. Romano-British Emperor, AD 286-293. Antoninianus (23mm, 3.59 g, 7h). Londinium (London) mint. VIRTVS CARAVSI AVGVSTI, radiate and cuirassed bust left, holding spear over shoulder and shield / PAX A V GGG, Pax standing left, holding olive branch and transverse scepter; S|P//MLXXI. RIC V –; Bourne –. Dark green patina, cleaning scratches. Good VF. Extremely rare. Unpublished as recently as Bourne (2009). A wonderful obverse.
