Severus II. AD 306-307. Æ Follis (27mm, 9.81 g, 6h). Londinium (London) mint. Struck 26 July AD 306-spring 307. IMP C SEVERVS PIVS FEL AVG, laureate and draped bust right / GENIO POPV LI ROMANI, Genius standing left, holding patera and cornucopia. Cf. RIC VI 40 (for similar issue); RML 163 var. (forthcoming; bust type); C&T 4.04.002 var. (bust type). Dark green patina. VF. Extremely rare. RR in RML. The RML and C&T coins are additionally curiassed. It is possible that there are pteryges that are off flan on this coin, but it does not appear do be the case which would make this coin a new variety. RML corrects RIC VI 40 to note that the legend on the cited coin likely read FEL AVG rather than FELIX AVG. |
