IONIA, Magnesia ad Maeandrum. Julia Maesa. Augusta, AD 218-224/5. Æ Pentassarion (30mm, 13.28 g, 6h). Marcus Aurelius Hyllos, son of Epikrates, grammateus. Diademed and draped bust right / Adrasteia standing facing, head left, holding globe and infant Zeus. Shultz 229 (V1/R1); RPC VI Online 5118. Brown patina, light porosity, scrape on reverse. Near VF. Very rare, only two known to Shultz, three in RPC.

Adrasteia was a nymph who, along with her sister Ida, raised the infant Zeus in a Cretan cave, far away from the baby-eating Cronus on Mt. Olympus. They nursed him on honey and milk from the goat Amaltheia, meanwhile, masking his cries with their shield-clashing war dance. As a reward for their service, Zeus placed them among the stars as the constellations Ursa Major and Minor (the Big and Little Bears, also known as The Big and Little Dippers).
