Head of Athena right, wearing earring and crested Attic helmet decorated with three olive leaves over visor and a spiral palmette on the bowl / Owl standing right, head facing; olive spray and crescent to left, "Sabakes symbol" and [S]WY[K] (in Aramaic) to right. Van Alfen Type I, 5 (O2/R?) = Price, More 158 (same dies); Nicolet-Pierre, Monnaies 4 (same obv. die); SNG Copenhagen 4; BMC 265. Toned, test cuts and banker’s mark causing section of reverse to detach (professionally repaired previously). VF.

Sabakes, the penultimate Persian satrap in Egypt, fell in battle against Alexander the Great at Issos. His successor, Mazakes, handed over Egypt to the Macedonians in 332 BC.
