SICILY, Katane. Circa 412-410 BC. AR Drachm (17mm, 3.58 g, 7h). Dies in the style of Prokles. Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand, reins in left, driving fast quadriga right; above, Nike flying left, crowning charioteer with wreath held in her extended hands; KA-TA-[NAION] to right and in exergue / Head of Amenanos right, wearing tainia; two fish flanking, crayfish to lower right, AMENAN-[OΣ] around. Mirone 80; HGC 2, –; Basel 332 = SNG Lockett 732 = Weber 1271. Find patina, small edge chip, minor die breaks, light cleaning marks on reverse. VF. Extremely rare with head right, missing from most published collections.

As with the unsigned litrai and unique hemidrachm (see previous lot) of this period, the drachms also have a style that is consistent with the contemporary tetradrachms signed by the artist Prokles.
