SICILY, Galaria. Circa 460-450 BC. AR Litra (9mm, 0.73 g, 6h). Contemporary imitation. Zeus Soter seated left, holding scepter, upon which eagle sits left / Dionysos standing left, holding kantharos and grape bunch; Δ to left. For prototype: cf. Campana, Galaria 1b; cf. HGC 2, 331. Lightly toned, die wear, scratches. VF. Very rare as an imitation, only one in CoinArchives (Bruun Rasmussen 2323, lot 5003 = Bruun Rasmussen 2319, lot 5003, from the same dies as the present coin). |
