POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (100 mm wide x 120 mm tall). A decorated Gnathian water jug with simple foot and single handle. a rounded flared lip defines space on the wide extended neck for 4 registers of running designs, all separated with double lines. The initial polychromatic pattern is a line of U shapes, followed by a wiggling line that thins as it stretches. The third design is a running pattern of sideways S shapes; the last is a row of dots. Minor loss of glaze present, some repair and restoration to handle possible as well. Foot reattached. Impressive. |
