SICYONIA, Sicyon. Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. Æ Diassarion (24mm, 5.60 g, 8h). Struck circa AD 198-205. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, holding spear and shield, seen from behind / [C]IKYWNWN, Septimius on horseback right, raising right hand in salute, [fallen enemy below(?)]. Cf. BCD Peloponnesos 618.1 (Pellene; for type – same obv. die). Earthen green patina. Fine. Extremely rare and unpublished.

Seemingly the second known coin with this obverse die, shared with BCD 618.1 which he assigned to Pellene (who’s legend does not seem to confirm that attribution, but is uncertain). There is a similar coin from Sicyon, BCD 357, with similar legends, but with a more typical laureate bust on the obverse.

Closing Date and Time: 3 July 2024 at 11:58:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
