PHRYGIA, Prymnessus. Gordian I. AD 238. Æ (32.5mm, 14.77 g, 1h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Dikaiosyne seated left, holding scales and scepter, wearing polos and being crowned by eagle above; flanked by two winged figures with fish tails; in exergue, two Erotes riding hippocamps. von Aulock, Phrygiens II 1124 var. (Tritons in exergue); RPC VII.1 776.2 (this coin). Yellow-brass surfaces, light roughness. Good Fine. Extremely rare. One of two known to RPC and the only one with hippocamps on the reverse. |
