THESSALY, Larissa. Circa 450/40-420 BC. AR Drachm (17.5mm, 5.92 g, 1h). The hero Thessalos, with petasos and chlamys hanging around neck, restraining bull left by band held around its head / Horse prancing right, trailing rein; uncertain symbol (filleted thyrsos or grasshopper?) below; all within incuse square. Lorber, Thessalian 50 (same dies as illustration); BCD Thessaly –; HGC 4, 420. Attractive light iridescent tone, a little die rust and small lamination on obverse, graffiti and light die wear on reverse. VF. |
