Crowned and cuirassed bust facing, holding globus cruciger and shield / Angel standing facing, holding long staff surmounted by staurogram and globus cruciger; A//CONOB. DOC 4 var. (unlisted officina); MIBE 5 var. (same); SB 477 var. (same). Lightly toned, minor obverse die rust, light deposits. Good VF.

The first known example in the 1st officina. While this issue undoubtedly had a full run of ten officinae, the 1st officina has remained elusive for this issue until now. Here the 1st officina is clearly displayed on a well executed reverse strike. Unlisted in the references as recently as MIBE in 2009 and with no examples appearing at auction until now, this coin affords a rare opportunity to add an exciting new addition to the corpus of Maurice’s coinage.
