CRETE, Eleuthernai. Circa 460-400 BC. AR Stater (27.5mm, 11.19 g, 12h). Laureate head of Apollo right / Apollo standing left, holding bow and stone(?), within dotted square border. Svoronos, Numismatique 4 (same dies as illustration); Le Rider, Crétoises –; cf. SNG Copenhagen 429 (hemistater; same rev. die). Faintly toned, roughness, extensive cleaning scratches, edge chip, overstruck on uncertain type (wing and tail of eagle visible on obverse, perhaps an issue of Lyttos). Near VF. Very rare. |
