Isaac II Angelus. First reign, 1185-1195. AV Hyperpyron (29mm, 4.20 g, 6h). Constantinople mint. The Theotokos enthroned facing, holding facing bust of the Holy Infant on lap / Facing figures of Isaac, wearing crown and loros, holding cruciform scepter, and Saint Michael the Archangel, wearing military attire, resting hand on chest, together holding sheathed sword between them; manus Dei above. DOC 1c; SB 2000. Some luster, edge wrinkled, minor graffiti in reverse margin. Near EF. Well struck with particularly great detail in the bust of the infant Christ. Lot includes a David Sear certificate of authenticity.
