POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (90 mm tall x 130 mm wide). A tall, Gnathian finely painted skyphos with two handles. A small flat round foot holds a tall body that tapers at the foot with a finely painted central grape vine pattern that is flanked on both sides with a polychromatic series of concentric lines and embellishments. On the opposite side: a vine pattern in white glaze is painted on the same level as the handles. Some loss of detail at base and on the painted design. Patina present on exterior and portion of interior. Loss at foot. Some reassembly and glaze touch up. |
