POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (95 mm tall x 140 mm wide). A Gnathian Skyphos with a tapered foot and two handles that extend from either side of the cup. The body is decorated in a polychromatic design of several fields of vertical lines, running S’s and dots, all cumulating to a hanging grapevine pattern that extends a good portion of the cup’s central face on the body. On the opposite face, a small vine pattern runs near the lip. Patina is extensive on this example. A large crack is present on the front face of the cup. Repaired at one handle and edge of cup. Attractive. |
