TUDOR. Edward VI. 1547-1553. AR Halfgroat (21mm, 1.17 g, 10h). First period. Canterbury mint; im –. Struck April 1547-January 1549. Crowned and mantled bust right; EDOARD / CIVI TAS CAN TON, coat-of-arms over long cross fourchée. North 1897; SCBC 2459 (plate coin in earlier editions). Slight double strike in legends. Toned. VF. Charming portrait. Very rare.

The distinct rendering of the king’s name as EDOARD is indicative that the engraver who produced this handsome and rare piece was French.
