Carausius. Romano-British Emperor, AD 286-293. Antoninianus (18.5mm, 2.43 g, 4h). Uncertain mint. IMP CARAVSIVS P F A, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / PA X AVG, Pax standing left, dropping incense into altar to left and holding vertical scepter. RIC V 926 (obv. legend). Dark brown patina with some green, slight roughness. Near EF. Well struck and in high relief. Possibly a new combination; but equally possible that the die engraver simply ran out of space for the full obverse legend ending in AVG.

From the Dr. Malcolm Lyne Collection, purchased from Spink, 19 June 2001.

Closing Date and Time: 5 June 2024 at 15:27:20 ET.
