Ex 1627 Kampen wreck (with Needles Underwater Archaeology Group certificate signde by Kevin Punch).
The Dutch East Indiaman Kampen sank in a storm off the Needles, Isle of Wight on her first voyage to the east. 160 of the men on board managed to reach the shore, saving 2 chests of the silver that the ship was carrying. in 1627 and 1628, dutch diver Javbo de Duiker recovered a further 2365 Spanish 8 Reales. The wreck was rediscovered in June 1979, at which point about 8000 coins, including Spanish 8 Reales and Dutch Leeuwendaalders.
