Valentinian II. AD 375-392. Æ (20.5mm, 4.31 g, 12h). Contemporary imitation. Imitating an official issue of the Antioch mint, circa AD 378-383. Pearl-diademed, helmeted, draped, and cuirassed bust right, holding spear and shield / Valentinian standing facing on galley left, head right, raising hand; to lower right, Victory seated facing, head turned upwards to left, holding oar; (wreath)|–//ANTЄ. Cf. RIC IX 40b (for similar official issue); cf. LRBC 2713 (same). Brown patina, porosity. Near VF. An unusual imitation with complete legends and additional letters at the end of the obverse legend not found on the official issue. |
