PHOENICIA, Tyre. Trebonianus Gallus. AD 251-253. Æ (26.5mm, 16.65 g, 6h). Laureate and cuirassed bust right, seen from the front / Herakles standing right, leaning on club to left, lion’s skin draped over right shoulder; Apollo standing left, hand on lyre, their arms around each other’s shoulders; between them, murex shell; to left, eagle standing left, head right. RPC IX 2002; Rouvier 2465 corr. (eagle not mentioned); BMC 439 corr. (same). Dark green patina with earthen highlights, light porosity. Fine. Very rare, only five recorded in RPC. |
