Carausius. Romano-British Emperor, AD 286-293. Antoninianus (24.5mm, 5.17 g, 12h). ‘C’ mint. IMP CARAVSIVS P F AVG, radiate and draped bust right / [MAR]S V I CTOR, Mars walking right, holding transverse spear and trophy over shoulder; CXXI. Cf. RIC V 279 (for similar issue); Malcolm Lyne, “Some New Coin Types of Carausius and Allectus and the History of the British Provinces: AD 286-296” in NC 2003, p. 162 and pl. 27, 21 (this coin). Dark brown patina with some red and toned partial silvering, a couple spots of weakness. Good VF. Rare. Unrecorded in RIC V with this mint mark. A very nice portrait.
