CHINA, Northern Sòng dynasty. Huīzōng. AD 1100-1125. Æ 10 Cash (38mm, 19.32 g). Cast AD 1102-1106. Chong Ning tōng bǎo in shòujīnshū Hànzì (slender gold script) characters / Blank. Cf. BN, Chinoises III 2026-2048; cf. Hartill 16.400. Attractive brassy surfaces with light green earthen deposits. Near EF. Rare and unusual.

Ex Norman Frank Collection.

This piece exhibits an abnormally broad rim and an exceptionally high weight of 19.26 g, while the heaviest example in the Shangahi collection weights only 15.6 g (no. 1224). The overall size implies that this may be a later casting intended for use as an amulet, perhaps during the Jin or early Yuan dynasties.

Closing Date and Time: 11 September 2024 at 13:31:20 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
