Constantine I. AD 307/310-337. Æ Follis (14.5mm, 0.96 g, 1h). Contemporary imitation. Imitating an official issue of the Lugdunum (Lyon) mint, circa AD 330-331. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Two soldiers standing facing each other, each holding reversed spear and resting hand on shield set on ground; two signa between them; PLG. Cf. RIC VII 236 (for prototype). Dark brown-red patina. EF. A very charming imitation. With the features somewhat blundered and Constantine erroneously laureate (like the Caesars) rather than diademed, though with a clear VG for AVG at the end of the obverse legend. |
