THRACE, Pautalia. Caracalla. AD 198-217. Æ Pentassarion (29mm, 14.69 g, 12h). Struck circa AD 205-209. Laureate head right / City view: acropolis surmounted by tetrastyle temple, statue of Hygieia(?) within, seen in perspective, flanked by two smaller tetrastyle temples; in foreground, tetrastyle temple, seen in perspective, with statue of Asclepius standing within; below, tetrastyle temple, seen in perspective, with statue of Apollo standing within; to left, grotto with statue of Pan standing within; to lower right, river-god reclining left on rock, holding cornucopia and urn from which water flows; trees on either side of mountain. Tachev Pautalia 271 (O61/R269); Ruzicka 712 (diff. rev. die); Varbanov 5255 var. (temple arrangement). Green patina, light porosity. Near VF. Extremely rare, only one known to Tachev, one in CoinArchives.
