Diva Faustina Senior. Died AD 140/1. Æ As (28.5mm, 13.24 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck under Antoninus Pius, circa AD 141-146. Draped bust right, wearing pearls bound on top of her head / Seven stars (septentriones) around and within crescent moon. RIC III 1199 (Pius). Dark green-brown patina worn through at high points. VF. Attractive portrait.

Latin Septentriones refers to the seven stars in Ursa Major that make up the Big Dipper, or sometimes to the seven stars in Ursa Minor that comprise the Little Dipper. This reverse type was used for Diva Faustina Senior because stars are a symbol of immortality.
