Carausius. Romano-British Emperor, AD 286-293. Antoninianus (21mm, 3.59 g, 7h). ‘C’ mint. IMP C CARAVSIVS [...], radiate and trabeate bust left / MONET A AVG, Moneta standing left, holding scales and cornucopia; S|C//C. Cf. RIC V 285 and 287 (for similar issues). Dark green patina, light roughness. Near VF. Extremely rare. A radiate and cuirassed bust left Moneta type is mentioned by Webb in RIC (no. 285) citing Baldwin. It is uncertain if that coin and this coin are the same bust type, though this coin’s bust does appears to be trabeate rather than cuirassed.

From the Dr. Malcolm Lyne Collection, purchased from Baldwin’s, 5 June 2003.

Closing Date and Time: 20 November 2024 at 13:36:00 ET.
