Galba. AD 68-69. Æ Sestertius (35mm, 25.47 g, 6h). Rome mint, 6th officina. Struck circa December AD 68. Laureate and draped bust right / Honos standing right, holding scepter and cornucopia, facing Virtus standing left, holding parazonium and spear. RIC I 477; ACG 383 (A128/P185). Brown patina, tan highlights. VF. Rare. There are only two examples in CoinArchives.

From the CJR Collection.

Honos, the Roman God of Honor, makes his first appearance on the coinage of Galba. Coupled with Virtus, the Goddess of bravery, Galba is clearly trying to make a statement directly to those who would use this coin type in daily commerce.

Closing Date and Time: 30 August 2023 at 12:56:00 ET.
