Carus. AD 282-283. Double Antoninianus (22mm, 3.23 g, 7h). Lugdunum (Lyon) mint. Autumn AD 282. IMP C M AVR CARVS P F AVG, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / ABVNDANTIA AVG, galley with oarsmen left, with lion-head rostrum; X ET I. Cf. RIC V 5; cf. Lyon 443 (both with double radiate crown). Brown surfaces, holed, light cleaning scratches. VF. Extremely rare, possibly unique without a double radiate crown.

Ex Auctiones 7 (17 June 2012), lot 104 (hammered for 850 CHF), conserved since.

The reverse type of ABVNDANTIA AVG with the galley is unique to the double antoniniani and are known to be issued with a double radiate crown and X ET I on the reverse. The double radiate is known from only three specimens, this coin has a single radiate crown, unique to this series.
