Michael VIII Palaeologus. 1261-1282. BI Trachy (26.5mm, 2.75 g, 6h). Thessalonica mint. Facing figure of St. Michael the Archangel, holding spear and resting hand on shield set on ground to right / Half-length facing figures of Michael, wearing crown and loros, holding cruciform scepter, and St. Demetrius, holding spear, holding long cross in crescent between them. DOC 147-150; BTM T.4; SB 2297. Green patina, minor scratches. Good VF. An exceptional strike for issue.
