ATTICA, Athens. Circa 165-42 BC. AR Tetradrachm (27mm, 16.56 g, 12h). New Style coinage. Dionyisi–, Dionysi–, and Aristo–, magistrates. Struck 119/8 BC. Helmeted head of Athena Parthenos right / Owl standing right, head facing, on amphora; magistrates’ names in fields; to right, Helios driving facing quadriga; Θ on amphora, ME below; all within wreath. Thompson 568c (same obv. die); HGC 4, 1602; SNG Copenhagen 147 (same obv. die). Toned, slightly off center. VF.

From the collection of an English Queen’s Counsel, purchased from B.A. Seaby Ltd., 2 March 1983 (their stock ticket included).

Interestingly, Thompson simply places a question mark for the control mark on the amphora on her no. 568c, which references the Copenhagen piece, but the cataloger of the SNG thought it might be a Θ. Although this coin is from a different reverse die, it is likely that it is a Θ on the Copenhagen coin.
