IONIA, Ephesos. Circa 370-350 BC. Æ (10mm, 0.92 g, 12h). Pythes, magistrate. Bee / Stag kneeling left, head right; astragalos above, ΠYΘHΣ name to left. SNG Copenhagen –; cf. According to Leschhorn, magistrates names ΠYΘHΣ are well attested in various minting periods at Ephesos (while being a very rare name elsewhere). However, his first recorded instance of the name is on a late tetradrachm in the straight-winged-bee series, which Kinns (Pixodarus) dates to circa 340-325 BC. Thus, this coin marks the earliest occurrence of this name on a coin at Ephesos.
