Laureate head of Apollo right / Homer seated left, resting chin on hand and holding scepter; monogram and AΠATOYPIOΣ to left. Milne, Autonomous, Period XIII, 278; SNG Kayhan 1485 var. (magistrate). Dark green patina, edge split, scratches. Good VF.

This type is often referred to as a ‘Homereum,’ based on a passage in Strabo’s Geographica (xiv, i.37): “[T]he Smyrnaeans also lay especial claim to the poet [Homer] and indeed a bronze coin of theirs is called a Homereum.”
