Zeno. Second reign, AD 476-491. AV Solidus (19mm, 3.91 g, 6h). Constantinople mint, 4th officina. Pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear over shoulder and shield / Victory standing left, holding long cross; star to right; Δ//CONOB. RIC X 905 var. (unlisted officina); Depeyrot 108/1. Clipped, slightly bent, both sides flip over rotated double strike. VF. Very rare. Though Depeyrot suggests that this type with the spear-point breaking the legend at P - ЄRP is a series of contemporary imitations.

From the Dr. Gary M. Duckett Collection.

A very interesting flip over rotated double strike on both sides. On the obverse, the reverse is visible underneath with the CONOB mint mark appearing beneath Zeno’s bust. On the reverse, the top of Zeno’s helmet crest and the legend can be seen above Victory as well as part of the cuirass near Victory’s feet.
