KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’. 336-323 BC. AR Tetradrachm (24mm, 17.29 g, 8h). Tarsos mint, “officina A”. Struck under Balakros or Menes, circa 333-327 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; below throne, pellet below strut. Price 2990 var. (position of pellet); Newell, Tarsos, Series I, Group 1, var. (same; but obv. die V of “officina B”). Lightly toned, a little off center, slight die shift on reverse. Good VF. Very rare variety.
