This medal was issued by the Federation of Jewish Philanthropic Societies in association with their 1922 fundraising drive, which aimed to raise a million dollars for distribution to various Jewish charities. “Each worker was also supplied with a Federation dollar, a coin the size of a silver dollar, which showed on one side how the money contributed to [the] Federation was spent, and on the other side the Federation seal and the slogan, “Charity is not the burden of the few but the responsibility of the many.”” (Better Times vol. 5 [December 1922], p. )
