COELESYRIA, Chalcis ad Belum. Cleopatra VII of Egypt. 36-30 BC. Æ (16mm, 4.23 g, 12h). Dated RY 21 (Egyptian) and 6 (Phoenician) of Cleopatra (32/1 BC). Diademed and draped bust right / Nike advancing right, holding palm and wreath, within laurel wreath. Svoronos 1888; RPC I 4772; SNG München –; Sofaer 44; DCA 477. Rough brown surfaces, minor deposits, porosity. Fine. Lot includes a David R. Sear Certificate of Authenticity.

All of Cleopatra’s coinage from Chalcis is dated by her Egyptian and Phoenician regnal years (corresponding to 32/1 BC). While the larger denominations featured the portrait of Antony, smaller denominations, such as this, were issued with Cleopatra’s portrait alone.
