Pescennius Niger. AD 193-194. Fourrée Denarius (17mm, 2.91 g, 12h). Imitating an Antioch mint issue. IMP CAES C PESCEN NIGER IVSTI AV, laureate head right, slight drapery on left shoulder / Seven stars above crescent. Cf. RIC IV 73b var. (obv. legend and bust type); cf. BMCRE 312 var.; cf. RSC 64 var. (obv. legend and bust type; cf. Triton II, lot 940 (hammer $1200). Deeply toned with traces of find patina, reverse pitting, core visible in pits. VF. Extremely rare.
