Leo I. AD 457-474. AV Solidus (20.5mm, 4.39 g, 6h). Constantinople mint, 8th officina. Struck AD 457-circa 468. Pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear over shoulder and shield / Victory standing left, holding long jeweled cross; star to right; H//CONOB. RIC X 605; Depeyrot 93/1. Lightly toned, graffito on reverse, tiny edge mark. VF.

A very unusual apparent striking error. At 9h, there appears to be the top of a helmet crest to the immediate left of the N L of the obverse legend. What is especially unusual about this, however, this that the die that nicked the 9h of this flan is not the same die that was used to strike this coin which has a much higher plume in the crest. This coin otherwise shows no signs of overstriking or even doubling which makes this a particularly unusual error.
